A crucial first step: WHO Pandemic Agreement

Dr. Raina Plowrigh along with colleagues on the Lancet Commission on Prevention of Viral Spillover, published their comment piece urging global adoption of the WHO Pandemic Agreement, scheduled for potential ratification at the 78th World Health Assembly in May 2025. The team published their support in the Lancet on April 3, emphasizing the agreement's crucial One Health approach to pandemic prevention.

After more than three years of intensive negotiations, WHO Member States recently concluded draft agreement discussions, representing a major step toward strengthening global pandemic preparedness. "Adopting the Agreement will be a testament to the ongoing promise of multilateralism at a time of enormous geopolitical upheaval," Raina Plowright stated.
